DENTAL CLINIC CLOSURE
Launched in September 2023 by United Way of Northwest Michigan, United We Smile provided access to community-based dental care for those who face barriers to oral health services in northwest Michigan. During its two and a half years of operation, United We Smile provided more than $2.3 million in dental care services to over 2,200 patients, including children, veterans, and those with disabilities and special needs. The United We Smile dental clinic closed in January 2026 due to staffing and other capacity constraints. Please see below for more information on dental records requests and other dental care providers.
DENTAL Records Requests
Northwest Michigan Health Services, Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and federally qualified health center headquartered in Traverse City, Michigan, has been selected to securely maintain custody of all confidential patient records for former United We Smile patients and will retain those records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and the required retention period under Michigan law.

In addition to securely maintaining former United We Smile patient records, Northwest Michigan Health Services offers comprehensive dental services at their Traverse City, Benzonia, and Shelby locations, and is available to assist patients with their ongoing oral health needs, should they wish to establish care with them.
